I grew up in cowan
A small little museum that is free, but they do need donations. There is a sign with a goal of 200k to keep the place going and so far they are only at 40k. It's places like this that keep the old railroad era alive, especially for the children. This is the first we have been to where you can actually go on or in the engine or even on a flat bed. My daughter loves trains so this was a treat. There is a miniature model train where the kids can go in the center of a bubble and watch it from there. We go to see two CSX trains go by while there too.
My children love it here! There are artifacts and old time pictures discussing the town history for adult amusement. In addition, there is a miniature of the local station travel from here and over the mountain. An electronic train goes round and round and there is a spot smaller children can crawl into to and see the set from the inside. Also, there is a small hole in the wall showing the train going threw a mountain.
Very neat old depo. Very interesting and lots of toy trains too. no touching .
